Shawnigan Camp 2015 & Victoria International Youth 7s

This year we’re entering three teams in the Victoria International Youth 7s Tournament. A boys U16 and U18 team and a girls U18 team.

This is a week long commitment as we will be holding a 3 day camp at the prestigious Shawnigan Lake School campus from Tuesday to Thursday (July 7-9) and then the tournament which is Friday and Saturday (July 8-9). All lodging and meals will be covered during during the camp, billeting will be provided for players during the tournament if required. We are again invited to the UVic First Nations House on Friday evening after the tournament. Last year we had a great salmon feast and ceremony to recognize the people who have helped the program prosper. Parents and players are invited to attend.

The camp and tournament are by invitation, we will be inviting 12 players per team so a total of 36. The letter below will be sent to  you by email, if you feel you (or one of your athletes) have been missed please send us your name, email and rugby history. Also provide the name and email of your coach. There will no doubt be some self-identified Aboriginal athletes we are not aware  of and we have left open a few spaces for last minute selections.

– Registration and insurance, players will need to be registered with BCRU for insurance reasons. The registration link is here: we’ll also add the link to our website ( ) and our Facebook page (
– Bring all necessary rugby kit with you, plus what you need for staying overnight. There will be swimming scheduled at the lake so bring your swimming trunks. There won’t be any certified lifeguards on duty, so if you don’t want your son or daughter swimming please notify us ahead of time.  Please bring black shorts and socks
– If you require billeting while in Victoria please let us know  ahead of time. If you can offer billeting for players, please let us know.
– The cost is $125 cost per player, if you’re having difficulty meeting that, contact John Lyall to discuss.
