Thunder Camp Wrapup 2018

Our 5th annual rugby camp at Shawnigan Lake School was another great success. This year thanks to sponsorship from Island Savings we were able to add a drum making workshop to the calendar of events. The sound of 50 drums beating in unison was something to behold on our cultural evening session.

Phil Mack Captains Canada into the World Cup in 2019

Thunder head coach Phil Mack led the Canadian men’s team to victory at the repechage tournament in Marseille. It was the last chance for Canada to qualify for the 2019 World Cup being held in Japan. Canada had to defeat three teams at the repechage Kenya, Germany and Hong Kong. They accomplished that and now are Japan bound in 2019.

BC Indigenous 7s Championship Proposal

One of the current projects the Thunder are working on is the BC Indigenous 7s Championship Proposal in cooperation with BC Rugby and ISPARC. As part of this project it’s important we identify potential coaches and administrators in the 6 regions of BC. If you’re interested contact John Lyall, we’ll be hosting an indigenous coaching and rugby 7s workshop and would like to start a list of those interested in participating.
